Every entry below was checked on its official website on 21 July 2026. That means the scholarship's own page, the host university, or the responsible government agency. Not a listing blog, not a Telegram channel, not a WhatsApp broadcast.
Why does that matter? Because the pages ranking for these searches right now get basic facts wrong. During this research, one popular aggregator was still listing the Vanier Canada scholarship with a live deadline. Vanier's own official page says it is no longer accepting applications. Another site presents the PTDF In-Country scheme as ongoing when its window closed on 5 June 2026.

Scholarships Open Now for Nigerian Students Open Now
These four confirmed on their official pages, on 21 July 2026, that applications were being accepted and that Nigerians are eligible.
1. Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa (UK, University of Oxford)
The Rhodes Scholarship is the single most valuable scholarship currently open to Nigerian graduates. It is genuinely fully funded: all Oxford course fees, an annual stipend of £20,400 (the 2025-26 rate, about £1,700 per month), two economy flights, your visa fees, and the UK health surcharge. If you are selected, the Trust even pays your Oxford application fee.
Deadline: 27 August 2026 at 23:59 GMT (that is 12:59 a.m. on 28 August, Nigerian time). Your referees have until 3 September 2026. Three scholarships are awarded each year across all eighteen West African countries, so the competition is serious.
Eligibility is precise. You need a First Class Honours degree or its equivalent, five of the last ten years resident in West Africa, and you must fit one of three age windows measured on 1 October 2026: 18 to 24 generally, 18 to 25 for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law and engineering graduates, or under 27 if you finished your first degree on or after 1 October 2025.
The order of operations surprises people: you apply for the Rhodes Scholarship first, before applying to Oxford. Scholars-elect then apply for their course with support from Rhodes House. So you do not need an Oxford admission to start.{alertSuccess}

2. Knight-Hennessy Scholars (USA, Stanford University)
If your target is a USA scholarship for Nigerian students at the graduate level, Knight-Hennessy is the strongest one open right now. It funds any full-time graduate degree at Stanford: tuition, a living stipend, and a travel allowance, for up to three years. Citizens of every country can apply, and Stanford confirmed the 2026 cohort was its most international ever.
Deadline: 6 October 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. That is 9:00 p.m. Nigerian time, and note that it is an afternoon deadline in the US, not midnight. Do not plan a last-minute submission around the wrong hour.
You submit two separate applications: one to Knight-Hennessy and one to your Stanford graduate programme, each with its own deadline. There is also a degree-recency rule: your first bachelor's degree must have been earned in January 2020 or later for the 2027 cohort.

3. Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship (Canada, University of Toronto)
This is the flagship Canadian scholarship for Nigerian students finishing secondary school. It covers tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years of an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. It does not include a cash stipend or flights, which matters for your family's planning.
You cannot apply directly. Your school nominates you, and each school gets one nominee per year. The 2027-entry timeline has three dates: school nomination by 9 October 2026, University of Toronto admission application by 16 October 2026, and the scholarship application by 6 November 2026.
If you are in SS3 or a recent graduate, approach your school principal or counsellor about the nomination now, before resumption chaos starts in September. The nomination is the gate; miss it and the other deadlines do not matter.{alertInfo}

4. DAAD EPOS: Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (Germany)
DAAD's EPOS programme funds Master's study in Germany on selected development-related courses. Nigeria is on the official eligibility list. The award is stipend-based: €992 per month for Master's scholars, plus health insurance contributions and a travel allowance. Tuition is not a listed benefit; most German public universities charge no tuition anyway, but call this a stipend scholarship, not a fully funded one.
There is no single deadline. Each EPOS-listed course sets its own, and you apply directly to the course (up to three, ranked in one motivation letter). Applications sent to DAAD itself are not forwarded.
Two requirements trip Nigerians up most: you need at least two years of professional work experience after your first degree, and your degree should normally be no more than six years old. An employer reference on letterhead, ideally with a re-employment guarantee, is part of the required documents.

No Separate Application Needed: You Are Considered Automatically Automatic
Clarendon Fund (UK, University of Oxford)
Oxford's Clarendon Fund is fully funded: full course fees plus a living grant of at least £20,780 (2025-26 rate). Here is the part most lists get wrong: there is no scholarship application at all. Oxford's official wording is that every applicant to a degree-bearing graduate course is considered. Apply to your Oxford Master's or DPhil by the course's December 2026 or January 2027 deadline and you are in the running for 2027-28 entry.
One honest detail Oxford states plainly: if you have not heard anything by around mid-June, you were not selected. There is no rejection letter. Official page: ox.ac.uk/clarendon.
ANU Chancellor's International Scholarship (Australia)
Every international applicant to the Australian National University is automatically considered. But read the funding line carefully: this is a tuition-fee reduction of 25%, up to 50% for some regions, plus a first-year accommodation guarantee. It is a partial scholarship. Any list calling it fully funded is wrong. You must also accept the scholarship offer separately from your admission offer. Official page: anu.edu.au.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
There is no central Mastercard Foundation application. You apply through a partner institution, and each partner runs its own window. As of 21 July 2026, thirteen partners showed open windows, including Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos and international postgraduate routes at Cambridge, Sciences Po, Arizona State, UC Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon Africa.

GREAT Scholarships 2026-27 (UK)
Nigeria is one of eighteen eligible countries for GREAT Scholarships this cycle, with fourteen UK universities open to Nigerians, including Imperial, UCL, Warwick, Edinburgh Napier, Bath, Southampton and Reading. The award is a fixed £10,000 toward tuition for a one-year taught Master's. That is partial funding; budget for the rest of the tuition and all living costs yourself.

NL Scholarship (Netherlands)
The NL Scholarship is a one-time €5,000 award in the first year for non-EEA students, and the official page itself says it is not a full-tuition scholarship. The 2026-27 cycle opened on 1 November 2025 and each of the 34 participating Dutch institutions sets its own closing date. Details: studyinnl.org.

Chevening Scholarships 2027-28 (UK)
Chevening is the UK government's fully funded Master's award: tuition, a monthly stipend, travel to and from the UK, arrival and departure allowances, and one visa application. Nigeria is an eligible country every cycle.
The official timeline says applications for 2027-28 open on 4 August 2026 at 11:00 UTC (12 noon in Nigeria) and close on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. You need at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours, and part-time, NYSC-type and volunteer work can count toward the total), and you apply to three eligible UK courses. You do not need a university offer when you apply; an unconditional offer is required by 8 July 2027.

Gates Cambridge 2027/8 (UK)
Gates Cambridge covers the full cost of studying at the University of Cambridge, plus a £22,050 maintenance allowance, airfares, visa costs and the health surcharge. The Trust's official wording: applications will open again in September 2026 for entry in 2027/8. The exact date is not yet confirmed, so treat any site quoting a precise September date as guessing.
There is no separate form; you apply through the funding section of the single Cambridge application, and your deadline is your course's funding deadline (December 2026 or early January 2027, 23:59 GMT). Official page: gatescambridge.org.
Annual Scholarships Awaiting 2027 Confirmation
These run most years but have no official announcement for the next cycle yet. Do not trust any page giving you a "2027 deadline" for them; those dates are invented. Bookmark the official pages instead.

Closed for 2026: Do Not Fall for Outdated Lists Closed
These are the big names other lists still present as live. All of them are closed for the current cycle, per their own official pages:
Commonwealth Scholarships (UK): all three schemes state "now closed" for 2026/27. PTDF Overseas: closed 27 February 2026, awardees already announced. PTDF In-Country: window ended 5 June 2026. Swedish Institute Global Professionals: portal ran 9 to 25 February 2026 and shows a closed banner. Ireland's GOI-IES: the page title itself says the 2026 call is closed. MEXT Nigeria (Japan): the Abuja embassy page carries a red banner saying applications are no longer being accepted; the deadline was 8 June 2026.
Three corrections worth knowing because they are so widely misreported:
Fulbright is not a Master's scholarship for Nigerians. The US Mission's page states that Master's and first-degree applicants are not qualified; Nigeria's Fulbright Foreign Student Program is for doctoral researchers only. The 2026/27 round is closed either way.
Vanier Canada is discontinued. The official page says applications are no longer accepted. Its successor, the Canada Graduate Research Scholarships Doctoral program, only accepts international applicants who are already enrolled in a Canadian PhD. It is not a route out of Nigeria.
Eiffel (France) does not cover tuition. Campus France states this directly, and its 2026 institution deadline passed on 8 January 2026, even though a banner on the same page still says the call is open. When an official page contradicts itself like that, contact the institution before acting on either statement.
Scholarships Within Nigeria Closing Soon Open Now
Three verified domestic scholarships were open on 21 July 2026, and two of them close within days of this article's update.
ICCEF 2026 Educational Scholarship (closes 30 July 2026)
Run by the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation for Nigerian citizens in public secondary and tertiary institutions. Two categories exist (Tuition Fees and Project-Based) and applying to both disqualifies you automatically. No award amount is published, so do not believe any figure you see on a blog. Apply only through the form linked from the official page: iccef.org.ng. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, in September 2026.
The Adedeji Scholarship Program, TASP 2027 (closes 30 July 2026, 11:59 p.m. WAT)
Despite the "2027" in its name, the deadline is this month. And despite what circulating posts claim, it is not open to all Nigerian universities. The official page limits it to University of Ibadan students in the Faculties of Economics, Social Science and Arts, levels 100 to 300. It covers full tuition and accommodation for one session, renewable once. Application is free at wearegwf.org/tasp, and the official FAQ warns there are no agents or middlemen.
Nifemi Brown Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship (closes 24 August 2026, 11:59 p.m. WAT)
Two awards for full-time undergraduates at Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of education (100-level students with an offer letter can apply; distance, part-time and sandwich students cannot). The foundation calls it a "full-ride," but its own page excludes accommodation, feeding, textbooks and transport. Read that as full tuition plus one paid training per year.
You apply by email (info@nbfafrica.org) with three reference letters on letterhead and a 600 to 750 word essay on AI in your field. The page itself warns that AI-written essays score poorly, so write it yourself. Details: nbfafrica.org. The foundation states plainly that it does not work with any agent, third party or intermediary.
What "Fully Funded" Really Means
"Fully funded" is the most abused phrase in scholarship content. Aggregator sites stick it on €5,000 grants and 25% tuition discounts. Here is what the official pages actually confirm, side by side:

How to Get a Scholarship to Study Abroad: The Application Routes
Most guides skip the single most confusing part: whether you need university admission before the scholarship, or the other way around. It differs per scholarship, and getting the order wrong wastes a full year. The verified routes:
Scholarship first, admission later: Rhodes (Scholars-elect apply to Oxford afterwards, with the Trust paying the application fee) and Chevening (unconditional offer needed by 8 July 2027, not when you apply).
Admission application IS the scholarship application: Clarendon, ANU Chancellor's, Gates Cambridge (a funding section inside the one Cambridge form), Eiffel (your French institution nominates you).
Admission first, then scholarship: Sweden's SI (university admission portal first, SI portal second), Ireland's GOI-IES (offer letter required with the application), Pearson (nomination and admission application before the scholarship form).
Two parallel applications: Knight-Hennessy (the KHS form plus your Stanford programme, different deadlines). Direct to the course: DAAD EPOS.
Whatever the route, the document set barely changes. Get these ready before any deadline pressure starts:
International passport. Processing queues in Nigeria are unpredictable. If yours has under a year of validity or does not exist yet, start this week. Every application above needs identity documents.
Official transcripts. Request them from your institution early; some Nigerian universities take months. Referees, briefed early. Rhodes wants four to six; NBF wants three letters on letterhead; DAAD wants a current employer letter with stamp and signature. Referees miss deadlines more often than applicants do. Give them a month, not a weekend.
English test, where required. Rhodes and most UK universities require IELTS or TOEFL scores unless you qualify for a waiver. DAAD does not accept the institutional TOEFL. Check the waiver rules before paying for a test; some universities waive it for degrees taught in English.

Essays written by you, in your own voice. Selection panels read thousands of applications and AI-generated essays are easy to spot. NBF says directly that they score poorly. Draft early, get one honest reader, and revise.
One more practical rule: always convert deadlines to Nigerian time. Rhodes closes at 23:59 GMT, which is 12:59 a.m. WAT the next morning. Knight-Hennessy closes at 1 p.m. Pacific, which is 9 p.m. WAT. Chevening opens and closes at 11:00 UTC, which is 12 noon in Nigeria. Where an official page states no time zone, assume the earliest plausible one and submit a day early.
How to Spot Scholarship Scams
Every deadline season, fake portals and "processing agents" harvest money and personal data from Nigerian students. The official warnings quoted below are real, from the scholarship providers themselves:
Anyone asking for money is a scam. The Mastercard Foundation states it does not solicit funding or request payments. NBF states it does not work with any agent, third party or intermediary. TASP's FAQ says there are no in-between and registration agents. Every legitimate award in this article has a free application.
Check the domain, not the design. During this research, one scholarship circulating on social media, the "J.O.A Foundation Scholarship 2026," could not be verified from any official source. Its supposed official domain serves an empty hosting placeholder page. A real foundation with money to give away has a real website. If the domain is parked, empty, or a lookalike (the real Japanese embassy domain is ng.emb-japan.go.jp; nigeria.emb-japan.go.jp does not exist), walk away.
Reach application forms only from the official site. ICCEF uses a Google Form, which is legitimate in that specific case, but only when you reach it from iccef.org.ng. A Google Form forwarded on WhatsApp with no official page behind it is a data harvester.
Nobody legitimate guarantees selection. Rhodes awards three scholarships across eighteen countries. Anyone promising you a slot for a fee is lying by definition.
