ABUAD Academics & Courses.
Every Detail.
The complete academic breakdown of Afe Babalola University — 6 colleges, 41 NUC-approved programmes, and an academic framework that actually works.
ABUAD Academic DNA
Four commitments that most Nigerian universities talk about but ABUAD actually delivers on.
A Calendar You Can Plan Around
ABUAD has maintained its published academic calendar consistently since inception. No indefinite closures, no surprise delays. You can calculate your graduation date before you even matriculate.
Guaranteed Graduation DateFully Residential, Fully Equipped
Every student lives on campus. The university runs its own power plant and delivers 24-hour electricity and internet. Your study environment is completely self-contained.
24/7 Power & InternetForeign Language as a Requirement
ABUAD is one of the only Nigerian universities that makes foreign language proficiency — French or Mandarin — a condition for graduation. It is embedded in the curriculum, not optional.
French or MandarinProfessional Certs Inside Your Degree
Relevant professional certifications are built into degree programmes where applicable. Graduates leave with both a degree and documented professional credentials — not just a scroll.

College of Engineering
Housed in the Goodluck Jonathan Building — one of the largest engineering complexes in Africa, spanning three and a half acres. Dually accredited by NUC and COREN.
College of Medicine & Health Sciences
Backed by ABUAD's own 400-bed Multi-System Teaching Hospital — one of the most modern private teaching hospitals in Nigeria. The college began full academic activities in October 2011 and has recorded 100% pass rates in professional board exams for Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science.
College of Pharmacy
Offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) — the professional doctorate and entry-level qualification for pharmacists in Nigeria, regulated by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria. The programme integrates pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice, and clinical training across community, hospital, industrial, and research settings.
College of Law
Widely regarded as one of the premier law schools in Nigeria. Features a purpose-built moot court for simulated trials and appellate advocacy. Currently led by Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, who also serves as Acting Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD.
College of Sciences
One of ABUAD's pioneer colleges. Combines natural sciences, applied sciences, technology, and architecture under one roof. Emphasises hands-on laboratory work and research-led teaching.
College of Social & Management Sciences
The largest college by student enrolment at ABUAD. Covers business, economics, social sciences, humanities, and arts. Programmes span both B.Sc. and B.A. tracks, with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and real-world relevance.
ABUAD Postgraduate Programmes
ABUAD's School of Postgraduate Studies coordinates doctoral, master's, and diploma programmes across five colleges — including part-time and Open Distance Learning (ODL) options.
Ph.D Programmes
Research doctorates across Engineering, Law, Medicine, Sciences, and Social & Management Sciences. Structured around original research contributions under supervised academic mentorship.
M.Sc / LL.M Programmes

Accreditation & Professional Recognition
ABUAD holds full NUC accreditation and professional body recognition across all 41 approved programmes. Here is every accrediting body, by college.
ABUAD Grading System
ABUAD uses the NUC 5-point CGPA scale. Assessment combines Continuous Assessment (CA) with formal semester examinations. Results are published on the university portal within 24 hours of Senate approval. See our ABUAD grading system & CGPA calculator guide for worked examples and scholarship bands.
| Grade | Score Range | Grade Point | Class of Degree |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 70 – 100% | 5.0 | First Class |
| B | 60 – 69% | 4.0 | Second Class Upper (2.1) |
| C | 50 – 59% | 3.0 | Second Class Lower (2.2) |
| D | 45 – 49% | 2.0 | Third Class |
| E | 40 – 44% | 1.0 | — |
| F | 0 – 39% | 0.0 | Fail |
CGPA and Class of Degree
Note: ABUAD does not award a Pass degree. The minimum graduation standard is Third Class. If a student's CGPA falls below 1.50 at the end of the first year, they are placed on academic probation. A second consecutive year below 1.50 may result in a programme transfer or withdrawal.
ABUAD Academic Calendar
Two semesters per year, each with clear milestones. ABUAD's calendar compliance is one of the most consistent of any Nigerian university — public or private. See the full ABUAD 2026/2027 academic calendar for exact resumption dates by college and the exam timetable.
ABUAD Academic Facilities
The campus is self-sufficient in power, water, and internet. Here is what students actually use day-to-day.
SIWES — Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme
Industrial training is compulsory for students in applicable programmes at ABUAD. It takes place during the long vacation period and places students in real organisations matched to their discipline.
Engineering, Sciences, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Agriculture are among the programmes that include SIWES as a graduation requirement.
This is not a box-ticking exercise. The field report is formally defended before a panel, and the resulting grade counts toward the student's academic record.
Research Areas
Research at ABUAD is framed around Nigeria and Africa's most pressing problems — not abstract academic exercises. The Office of Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships coordinates this across colleges.
Biomedical Research
Clinical and translational research conducted using the Multi-System Teaching Hospital as a primary research environment alongside the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Engineering & Technology
Applied research in petroleum, mechatronics, and renewable energy using the College of Engineering's laboratories and the Festo Training Centre.
Pharmaceutical Research
Drug development, pharmacognosy, and clinical pharmacy research conducted within the College of Pharmacy's dedicated laboratory facilities.
Legal & Policy Research
Research on Nigerian constitutional law, human rights, and international trade. The College of Law engages with both domestic and cross-border legal questions.
Social Sciences & Development
Governance, economic development, conflict resolution, and communication research relevant to the Nigerian and African context.
