Share this with anyone waiting on a result. One date below, the WAEC GCE registration deadline of 31 July, falls before results are expected on 3 August, so it is easy to miss while you are waiting. {alertInfo}
You are about to see your WASSCE result, and the harder part is not checking it. Checking takes a few minutes. The problem is the hour afterwards, when you are staring at a grade sheet trying to work out whether you still have an admission this year, and most of what you find online is either a result-checking tutorial or a vendor selling something.
Here is what is actually true. Many candidates who panic on result day have a workable result and have misread it, usually by counting a D7 as a credit. A smaller group have a real problem, and for that group the useful moves are time-limited and specific. One of them, registration for the next WAEC GCE sitting, closes on 31 July for the registration PIN and 2 August for the registration itself, both before results are expected on 3 August.
This page is triage, not a tutorial. It tells you how to read your result properly, gives you a decision tree for each of the five outcomes you can get, and explains exactly what each one means for admission into Afe Babalola University. Do these three things in the first 24 hours
Two deadlines for the WAEC GCE 2026 Second Series, and they are not the same date. The registration PIN must be generated by Friday, 31 July 2026, and biometrics and online registration must be completed by 11:59pm on Sunday, 2 August 2026. The fee is ₦27,000 plus a ₦500 bank or agent commission. Results are expected on 3 August, so both deadlines pass before you know whether you need the exam. Candidates who miss them can register as walk-in candidates up to 24 hours before the paper they intend to write, but the walk-in fee is ₦45,000 and the exam towns and dates are yet to be announced. {alertWarning}
Step 1: Check your result
The only official checker is waecdirect.org. You need your ten-digit examination number, the examination year, the type (School Candidate Result), and the serial number and PIN from the back of your smart card.
You can also send WAEC*ExamNo*PIN*ExamYear with no spaces to 32327 on MTN, Glo or Airtel. Secondary reports put the SMS cost at about ₦30 and a replacement PIN through WAEC's Request Management System at over ₦3,500, but we could not confirm either figure in a current WAEC price list. Confirm the price on waecnigeria.org or with a WAEC office before you pay anything, and do not treat the amounts here as current.

Step 2: Read your result properly
Result-day panic often comes from candidates misreading their own grade sheet. Two things decide whether your result works: what counts as a credit, and which five subjects count for your course.

This is where people lose hope for no reason, and where others relax when they should not. A D7 is a pass on paper and feels like one, but no Nigerian university counts it toward your five credits. Read your sheet again with only A1 to C6 in mind.
Then check which subjects those credits are in. Five credits that do not include the specific subjects your course requires will not get you admitted, and a candidate with five credits in the wrong combination is in a weaker position than one with exactly the right five. The decision tree: five outcomes, five plans
Your result will fall into one of five situations. Find yours and follow that branch only.
Outcome 1: You have five credits including English and Mathematics
You are eligible. Upload the result to your JAMB profile today rather than at the weekend, because the portal slows badly in the days after a release. Then confirm your ABUAD screening status and keep watching the email address you registered with, since that is where the screening invitation is sent.
If your credits came from two different sittings, read the ABUAD section below before you celebrate. Some programmes will not accept that.
Outcome 2: You are short one or two credits
This is recoverable, and the timing is the hard part rather than the exam itself.
The next WAEC sitting is the GCE Second Series for private candidates. Registration opened on 4 May 2026 and closes in two stages: the registration PIN must be generated by Friday, 31 July 2026, and biometrics and online registration must be completed by 11:59pm on Sunday, 2 August 2026. WAEC's registration notice states a fee of ₦27,000 plus a ₦500 bank or agent commission. One education site reported ₦37,000, and where the two disagree the WAEC notice is the stronger source, so confirm the current figure on waecnigeria.org before you pay anyone.
If you miss both dates, WAEC accepts walk-in candidates who register at least 24 hours before the paper they intend to write, at ₦45,000. Two other details matter for planning. The objective papers are computer-based and the essay and practical papers are hybrid, so practise on a CBT interface and not only on paper. And the examination is urban-based, with the towns and period to be announced separately, so check waecnigeria.org for the current position rather than relying on a WhatsApp forward.
Be realistic about the calendar. A Nov/Dec result arrives well after this admission cycle has closed, so in practice a missing credit means you are working toward the next session, not this one. The exception is a course whose required subjects you already have, where the missing credit is in a subject your course does not need. Check that carefully before you write off the year.
NECO also runs a Nov/Dec private candidates examination, and many universities accept a combination of WAEC and NECO results. ABUAD's position on combining sittings is the important detail here, and it is covered below.
Outcome 3: Your result is withheld
Withheld does not mean cancelled, and it does not always mean you did anything wrong. WAEC withholds results while it investigates reported irregularities, and an entire centre is sometimes affected because of what happened around a candidate rather than because of the candidate. The scale is worth knowing. When the 2025 school candidates' results were released, 192,089 results, or 9.75 per cent of candidates, were withheld over alleged malpractice, which was an improvement on the 11.92 per cent withheld in 2024.
WAEC operates a complaint portal specifically for candidates whose results are withheld or held, where you view the reason and make a representation for the council's consideration. It is at waecinternational.org/complaints. Two things about how it works. The portal is opened for one examination diet at a time, so a 2026 school candidate will not find a case there until WAEC loads that diet. And WAEC's own instruction on the portal is to check it four weeks after the release of results for updates on your notice and for the submission of your representation. Check it as soon as you see a withheld status, then check again at the four-week point, because that is when the council expects representations.
Two honest points. WAEC does not publish a guaranteed resolution time, and cases have historically run for weeks or longer, so treat the timeline as unknown and act quickly. And a withheld result blocks your admission while it is unresolved, because JAMB and ABUAD cannot verify a result that WAEC has not released. Tell the ABUAD admissions office your situation rather than going quiet.
Outcome 4: Your result is incomplete or subjects are still processing
This is common and it is usually not about malpractice. When WAEC released the 2025 school candidates' results, 451,796 candidates, about 22.94 per cent, had one or more subjects still being processed. The cause decides what you do about it. For those 2025 school candidates WAEC attributed the delay to technical issues on its own side, and Dr Dangut said at the release that the affected results would be completed within days. In the 2026 private candidates release, by contrast, WAEC attributed the 2,062 pending cases to errors traceable to the candidates during registration or the examination.
So give it a few days and check again before you conclude that a subject is lost. If it is still missing after that, your school is the right next stop, because school candidates' entries were submitted by the school. Keep your printed result page, note which subjects are missing, and follow up through your school and the nearest WAEC office. Do not pay anyone who offers to release a pending subject for a fee.
Outcome 5: Your result will not open and your fees were paid by a sponsor
This one is specific to the 2026 diet. In July 2026 Dr Dangut said that candidates whose examination fees were paid by institutions or stakeholders still owing WAEC could face delays in accessing their results until those debts are settled, and he asked the affected sponsors to clear the balance.
If your fees were paid by a state government, a scholarship scheme, a foundation or your school rather than by your family, and your result will not display while candidates elsewhere can see theirs, this is a possible reason. It is not something you can fix yourself. Ask your school or the sponsoring body directly whether the payment was completed, and keep evidence of that enquiry in case ABUAD or another institution asks why your result is not yet verifiable.
Step 3: Get the result onto your JAMB profile
Having a good result and having it visible to JAMB are two different things. Log into your JAMB profile to confirm whether your O'Level result is already showing, and upload it through the official JAMB channels if it is not.

Nobody at a business centre can "upload your result to JAMB for you" in a way that you cannot do yourself, and no agent can speed up a withheld result. Both are common result-week scams. {alertError}
What your result means for ABUAD specifically
ABUAD does not admit on JAMB score alone. Your admission is an aggregate of your UTME score, your Post-UTME screening performance, and your O'Level grades, which is why two candidates with identical JAMB scores get different outcomes. Secondary education sites put ABUAD's minimum UTME score at 180, with the competitive programmes requiring more, and we could not confirm that figure in a current official ABUAD document. Verify it on admissions.abuad.edu.ng before you rely on it.
The sitting requirement is the detail that catches people out, and it is also the detail we cannot settle for you from published sources. At a number of Nigerian universities the competitive health-science and law programmes require all five credits at one sitting while other programmes accept two sittings. We could not verify ABUAD's current single-sitting rule for Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy or Law in any official ABUAD document, so treat it as an open question rather than a fact.
What that means in practice. If your five credits came from two sittings and you are aiming at Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing or Law, ask ABUAD admissions in writing whether a combination is accepted for that specific programme before you pay for anything. Ask by email so you have the answer on record. One published ABUAD requirement we can point to is narrower and applies only to its diploma and certificate programmes, which are listed as needing four credits at one sitting or five across two sittings, both including English Language and Mathematics. Do not read that across to the degree programmes.

If your result is strong but your JAMB score is the weaker half of the aggregate, the useful move is matching yourself to the right programme rather than insisting on the most competitive one. If your result genuinely changes your plans
Sometimes the result is clear and the honest answer is that the original plan does not work this year. There are three real routes, and none of them is failure.
Switch to a programme you qualify for. A candidate whose credits rule out Pharmacy may be fully qualified for Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Anatomy or Physiology, all of which sit in the same academic territory and are less competitive. Two of these dates are expected rather than confirmed, and they are marked as such.

Frequently asked questions
Dr Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC's Nigeria National Office, said the council would release the 2026 results 45 days after the final paper, and in early July 2026 he restated a commitment to release them on 3 August 2026. The examination ended on 19 June 2026, and 45 days later is Monday 3 August. The 2025 results followed the same interval and were released on Monday 4 August 2025. Treat 3 August as WAEC's stated intention rather than a release announcement, and check waecdirect.org for the actual position. This page was last checked on 29 July 2026.
You need a PIN and serial number, which come either from the smart card issued at your examination or from a result checker PIN bought through WAEC's official channels. Secondary reports put a replacement PIN through WAEC's Request Management System at over ₦3,500, and we could not confirm that in a current WAEC price list. Confirm the price with WAEC before paying, and never buy PINs from social media vendors.
Grades A1 to C6 count as credit passes. D7 and E8 are passes but are not credits, and F9 is a fail. Only A1 to C6 count toward the five credits universities require.
Many Nigerian universities accept credits obtained across two sittings, which in practice allows a WAEC and NECO combination, and ABUAD's published diploma and certificate requirements allow five credits across two sittings. We could not verify ABUAD's current position on combining sittings for its degree programmes, particularly Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy and Law, in any official ABUAD document. Ask ABUAD admissions in writing about your specific programme before you rely on a combination. Only ABUAD can give you a binding answer.
Not for a degree programme. Nigerian universities require a minimum of five credit passes, and for most courses those must include English Language and Mathematics. With four credits your routes are the next WAEC GCE or NECO private candidates sitting, which means targeting the following admission cycle, or an A-level, diploma or foundation programme followed by Direct Entry at 200 level. Confirm the exact O'Level requirement for any diploma or foundation route with the institution, because it differs from the degree requirement.
WAEC withholds results while it investigates reported examination irregularities, and sometimes an entire centre is affected rather than one candidate. WAEC's complaint portal at waecinternational.org/complaints displays the specific reason for your case and the next line of action.
WAEC does not publish a guaranteed resolution time. WAEC states that withheld results are released or cancelled based on the outcome of the investigation. Treat the timeline as unknown, lodge your complaint through the official portal immediately, and keep ABUAD admissions informed.
Candidates can apply and register for screening while a result is outstanding, but the result must be resolved and verifiable before an admission is confirmed. Do not treat an application as a substitute for sorting out a pending or withheld result.
There are three common reasons. Your result may be withheld pending a malpractice investigation, in which case the reason shows on WAEC's complaint portal. One or more subjects may still be processing, which affected 22.94 per cent of 2025 school candidates and was resolved for most of them within days. Or your examination fees may have been paid by an institution or sponsor that still owes WAEC, which Dr Dangut said in July 2026 could delay access until the debt is settled.

Nobody can upgrade your WAEC result. WAEC has publicly cautioned candidates about fraudsters who promise to do it, and has stated that its systems are secure and results are verifiable only through official channels. Anyone offering to change a grade, release a withheld result, or add a credit for a fee is defrauding you. Beyond losing the money, attempting to alter a result is examination malpractice and can cost you the result you already have. Do the single highest-value thing first: once your result is out, count your credits against the exact subject requirements for the course you want, using our ABUAD courses and entry requirements guide, then confirm those requirements on admissions.abuad.edu.ng. If you qualify, upload the result to your JAMB profile the same day. If you do not, work through the matching branch of the decision tree above this week rather than later, because several of the options there have deadlines.
