If you searched this topic already, you have seen confident tables claiming Medicine and Surgery costs ₦4,567,500 at ABUAD for 2026/2027. That figure is wrong. The official portal puts first-year Medicine and Surgery at ₦6,954,000. A family budgeting from the top search result arrives ₦2,386,500 short, after the admission has been accepted.
The confusion happens because most pages recycle fee tables from earlier sessions and relabel them for the current year. ABUAD reviews its fees most sessions, so a table from 2024/2025 with a new heading is not slightly stale. It is wrong by millions on the expensive programmes.
This page lists what the official 2026/2027 schedule actually says for level 100, across all 53 programmes in the seven colleges, plus accommodation, the compulsory levies, and worked first-year totals so you can see the real number rather than tuition alone. The official schedule sits on the ABUAD e-portal under School Fees Schedule 2026/2027 Academic Session. It has three tables: tuition sub-totals by programme, accommodation by room type, and other fees.
The schedule now covers every level, not only freshers. It carries 228 tuition rows across the 53 programmes, running from level 100 up to level 600 where a programme is that long. The breakdown is 53 rows at level 100, 53 at level 200, 50 each at 300 and 400, 18 at level 500, and 4 at level 600.
A correction belongs here. When this page first went up on 4 August 2026, the schedule contained level 100 rows only, and this page said so. ABUAD has since added the returning-student rows, and the page was corrected on 6 August 2026. If you read the earlier version and concluded that your 200-level figure did not exist, it does now. Section 6 has it.
A second detail worth knowing before you plan: the portal labels the tuition column SUB-TOTAL, and the explanatory paragraph that should define what the sub-total covers is still unfinished placeholder text on the live page. So the portal itself does not state what is inside that figure. What you can verify is what sits outside it, because accommodation and the levies are published as separate tables with their own totals. Treat the sub-total as tuition and academic charges for the session, then add accommodation and levies on top, which is what Section 5 does.
2. Official tuition by college and programme
These are the published sub-totals for level 100 in 2026/2027, grouped by college and sorted from highest to lowest so you can see where your programme sits. The naira amounts are exactly as the portal shows them. Returning-student rows for the same programmes are in Section 6.
Tuition alone spans a very wide range: ₦1,353,600 for Agriculture up to ₦6,954,000 for Medicine and Surgery. The programme you choose changes your bill more than any other decision, by a factor of five.

Two figures in that list are worth a second look, because they are the only ones that are not round. Agriculture at ₦1,353,600 and Performing & Theater Arts at ₦1,389,600 both end in 600 while every other programme ends in 000. They are also the two cheapest programmes on the schedule. ABUAD has historically priced Agriculture below every other college, so the pattern is consistent, but the portal gives no note explaining the odd ending. If you are entering either programme, confirm the exact kobo figure on your own invoice.
Notice also how the colleges cluster. Everything in Social and Management Sciences is priced identically at ₦1,674,000, all fifteen programmes. Most of Sciences sits at ₦1,794,000, except the four computing programmes and Architecture at ₦2,754,000. Engineering is ₦2,874,000 across the board, except Mechatronics and Aeronautical and Astronautical at ₦3,114,000. If your programme is in one of those flat bands, switching within the band saves you nothing.
3. Accommodation fees
Accommodation is charged separately from tuition and it is not optional in practice, since ABUAD is a residential campus. The published rates for 2026/2027:

The spread here is ₦700,000 between the cheapest and dearest room, which is more than the entire tuition gap between Social Sciences and Engineering. Room choice is the second biggest financial decision after programme choice.
Two things in that table surprise people. First, the Ensuite 2-Person Upgraded Room at ₦560,000 costs less than the plain 1-Person Room at ₦610,000, so an upgraded ensuite room is cheaper than a basic single. Second, three different room types all sit at ₦610,000: the plain 1-Person, the Ensuite 3-Person, and the Super Deluxe 4-Person. At the same price you are choosing between privacy and facilities, not paying more for one or the other. Compare them physically before you pick, because the price will not guide you.

4. The compulsory levies
Beyond tuition and accommodation, the portal publishes a short list of other fees:

For a fresh student the fixed levies come to ₦115,000: ₦30,000 PTCF, ₦10,000 medical screening, and the ₦75,000 souvenir. Returning students do not pay the souvenir, so their fixed levies drop to ₦40,000. Students' Association dues are listed as "As applicable" with no amount, so budget a small extra buffer and ask your college for the current figure.
One thing you should know about what is not on that list. The official schedule shows no acceptance fee and no caution deposit anywhere. Several third-party pages quote ABUAD acceptance fees confidently, and searches for "abuad acceptance fee" are common enough that people clearly expect one. It may be charged and simply not published on this page, or it may be inside the tuition sub-total. We could not verify either way from an official document, so this page does not give you a figure. Ask the bursary directly before assuming you owe an extra amount, and equally before assuming you do not.
5. What the first year really costs
This is the section every other page skips. Tuition tables are easy to publish, but nobody arrives on campus having paid only tuition. Here is the arithmetic for a fresh student: tuition sub-total, plus accommodation, plus the ₦115,000 in levies.

So the realistic floor for a first year at ABUAD in 2026/2027 is about ₦1.78 million, for Agriculture in a 4-person room. The ceiling is roughly ₦8.08 million, for Medicine and Surgery in a Super Deluxe single. For the largest group of students, those in Social and Management Sciences, expect around ₦2.1 million in a 4-person room.

6. Returning students: the 2026/2027 figures are now out
If you are returning to ABUAD this session, your row is published. One rule governs almost all of it. For 51 of the 53 programmes, the 200-level sub-total is exactly 87.5 per cent of the 100-level sub-total, a flat 12.5 per cent drop. That rule is exact to the naira, not approximate.

The last two rows are the two exceptions, and both break the rule in the same direction. Medicine and Surgery at 200 level is ₦6,483,750 where the 12.5 per cent rule would give ₦6,084,750, so MBBS students pay ₦399,000 more than the pattern predicts. Pharmacy is ₦20,000 above its rule figure. The portal gives no note explaining either, so if you are in MBBS or Pharmacy, do not compute your fee from the 12.5 per cent shortcut. Read your actual row.
Returning students also stop paying one levy. The ₦75,000 fresher souvenir is charged once, so your fixed levies are ₦40,000 rather than the ₦115,000 a fresher pays: ₦30,000 PTCF and ₦10,000 medical screening. Accommodation is unchanged, from ₦310,000 for a 4-person room to ₦1,010,000 for a Super Deluxe single.
One warning about planning ahead. The fee does not fall in a straight line as you go up. Three programmes rise at a later level: Dentistry jumps ₦609,000 between 200 and 400 level, Medical Laboratory Science rises ₦78,750 at 300 level, and Pharmacy rises ₦693,000 at 600 level. If you are budgeting for a whole degree rather than one session, a steady decline is the wrong assumption.

7. Why the popular figures are wrong
It is worth naming the specific errors, because these are the pages ranking above the official portal for this query.
Savina Academy publishes a 2026/2027 breakdown claiming Medicine and Surgery freshers pay ₦4,567,500, Nursing ₦2,100,000, and Medical Laboratory Science ₦1,355,000. The official figures are ₦6,954,000, ₦3,954,000, and ₦3,114,000. Those are shortfalls of ₦2,386,500, ₦1,854,000, and ₦1,759,000. The page also invents a "College of Agriculture" and a "Part-Time Degree Programmes" section, neither of which appears in the official 2026/2027 schedule.
Campus Ninja reproduces a full per-level table and labels it 2026/2027, showing Medicine 100 level at ₦4,670,000 against the official ₦6,954,000, a shortfall of ₦2,284,000. Its per-level rows do not match the official ones either. The current schedule puts Medicine at ₦6,483,750 for 200 level, so the whole table is an earlier session's data under a current heading.
Scholarsnaija states ABUAD fees "range from N536,000 to N2,500,000" for 2026/2027. The actual range for level 100 is ₦1,353,600 to ₦6,954,000. The lower bound is less than half the cheapest real programme.
The lesson is not that these sites are careless, though some are. It is that fee pages age badly and almost nobody re-checks them. Before you trust any figure, including this one, look for the check date and whether the page says which session's schedule it read.
8. Is ABUAD the most expensive private university in Nigeria?
This question gets asked far more often than the fee question itself, and the honest answer is: for Medicine, ABUAD is near the top, but it is not simply "the most expensive university" as a whole.
The confusion comes from comparing different things. At ₦6,954,000 for first-year Medicine and Surgery, ABUAD sits among the most expensive medical programmes in the country, and that single figure is what gets quoted in "most expensive university" lists. But the same university charges ₦1,353,600 for Agriculture and ₦1,674,000 across all of Social and Management Sciences. Those are ordinary private-university prices in Nigeria, not premium ones.
So a fair comparison has to be programme against programme. A Business Administration student at ABUAD and a Medicine student at ABUAD are having completely different financial experiences at the same address. Ranking lists that assign one number to a whole university are comparing that university's most expensive programme against another's average.

9. How to pay, and what to check first
The portal lists three payment routes: bank deposit, PayDirect, and online payment through the portal itself. Whichever you use, the invoice generated on your own portal profile is the figure that counts, not any table online.

10. Legitimate ways to reduce the bill
Three levers actually work, and they differ enormously in size.
Room choice is the fastest. Moving from a Super Deluxe single to a 4-person room saves ₦700,000 in one decision, with no effect on your academics. If the budget is tight, this is the first place to look, and it is entirely within your control at allocation time.
Scholarships are the largest but the most competitive. ABUAD runs scholarship and financial aid schemes, and national schemes are open to private-university students too. One lever that does not work: switching to a cheaper programme within the same flat price band, as Section 2 showed. Moving between two programmes both priced at ₦1,674,000 saves nothing.

Because Direct Entry students enter at 200 level while being new students, check that the level on your generated invoice matches your actual status, and query it with the bursary before paying if it does not look right.

Open the official schedule and find your programme's row, then log in to your portal profile and compare it against the invoice generated for you. If the two disagree, the invoice is what you owe. Before any transfer, ask the bursary two questions in writing: whether an acceptance fee applies to you, and whether your programme allows part payment this session.
